John B. Rusling, 82, of Stephen, Minnesota passed away peacefully at Villa St. Vincent in Crookston, Minnesota on Friday evening, September 16th, 2011.
John Benjamin Rusling was born December 13, 1928 at Hallock, Minnesota, the son of DeWitt and Gladys (Isely) Rusling. John attended Stephen Public School, graduating in 1947.
After high school John did custom combining and trucking. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1951 and served as a staff sergeant until December 1, 1954. On March 20, 1954 he married Jean Ortquist at Tacoma, Washington. The couple returned to Stephen in December of 1954. John worked for Ray Hougard Truck Lines until 1967 when he started John B. Rusling Trucking. He retired in 2004. John was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church in Stephen and served as an elder there prior to it’s closing. He was also a 59 year member of the Stephen American Legion.
Family members include a daughter, Laurie “Dodie” Safranski, Stephen; two sons, John Jr., Eden Prairie, MN and Marc (Stacy), Stephen; grandchildren, Tara (Andrew), Ashley, Ian, Dana (Brendan), Scot, Jennifer, Heather (R.J.), Michelle, Trisha, Jordan and Carly; great grandchildren, Hunter, James, Lily, Leah, Austin and Callen; a brother, Noel (Mary) Rusling, Crookston and two sisters, Marlene Buckley, Orangevale, CA and Karen Belser, Columbia, SC; as well as nieces and nephews.
He was preceded by his parents; and his wife, Jean in 2002.
