Ruud, Vivian (Knutson) (1914-2002)

Vivian Ruud, 87, died Monday, March 25, 2002 at Oakland Park Nursing Home in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, March 30, at United Lutheran Church in Gatzke with Rev. Sandra Hollands officiating. Gloria Sistad was the organist, and MaryAnn Lunsetter and Donovan Ruud were the soloists. Casketbearers were Bob Ruud, Wayne Ruud, Terry Ruud, Jeff Swagger, Lee Roppe, and Bradley Ruud. Burial was in Landstad Cemetery in Rollis Township of Beltrami County with Green Funeral Home of Thief River Falls in charge of the arrangements.

Vivian Knutson was born on December 1, 1914 in Warren, the daughter of Albert and Bertha (Forsberg) Knutson. She moved with her family to Grygla.

On October 17, 1934, Vivian was united in marriage to Johnnie Ruud at Grygla. The couple moved to Minneapolis in 1950 where Vivian worked in the laundry department at Fairview Hospital until her retirement in 1973. Johnnie died in 1972, and in 1974, Vivian moved to Thief River Falls. She resided at Northland Village until 1987 when she moved to Gunderson Apartments. She lived there until March of 1999 when she moved to Oakland Park Nursing Home.

Vivian received numerous awards for her embroidery and crocheting at the county fair. She also enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially playing whist.

Survivors include two daughters, Jean (Walter) Roppe Patterson of Newfolden and Darlene (fiance LeRoy Lian) Swagger of Gatzke; a son, Russell (fiancee Jennifer Brynman) of Fort Collins, Colo.; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law; and several nieces and nephews.

Vivian was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a sister, Eunice Roberts; a brother, Earl Knutson; a brother-in-law; a sister-in-law; a nephew; and a son-in-law, Mervin Roppe.
