Warren Solberg, 83, Warren, MN, passed away on Wednesday, April 26, 2006 at the Good Samaritan Center in Warren.
Warren Earl Solberg was born on May 29, 1922 in Warren, the son of Andrew and Annie (Polson) Solberg. Warren was the youngest of four siblings. He was raised Alvarado, MN where he graduated from Alvarado High School. After graduation, he went to Illinois and worked construction for 1½ years before moving back to the farm in Alvarado. In 1942, he met Ruth Roland of Stephen, MN at the creamery in Alvarado where she was the bookkeeper. They were married on Nov. 13, 1943 at Ruth’s home in Stephen. They lived in Alvarado where he farmed in the summer and worked at the grocery store in the winter. Warren was drafted into the US Army in 1945 and he served his time in Japan. After his discharge, they bought a farmstead 6 miles west of Warren where he farmed wheat, barley and sugar beets. He worked for Lyle’s Plumbing and Heating of Warren for 10 years in the off season. In 1958, they rebuilt their farmhouse. Warren retired from farming in 1984 and they began their hobby of collecting, trading and selling farm toys for many years.
He was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and a 60 year member of the Warren American Legion Post #27. Warren was also a supervisor for Boxville Township for 46 years.
Warren enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, traveling, playing cards and visiting.
Left to mourn his passing are his wife, Ruth, three children; Robert (Judy Lynn) Solberg of Nampa, ID, Rick (Bette) Solberg of Warren, MN and Debbie (Jerry) Rominski of Argyle, MN, nine grandchildren; William, Monica, Naomi, Mitchell, Jay, Preston, Tyler, Tess and Deja and four great-grandchildren; Kathie, Ryan, Maylie and Bryn.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two daughters; Kathie and Naomi, two brothers; Gilbert and Lawrence and sister, Eleanor Mundt.
