Myron Berthel Sorter, the son of the late Ellef and Christine (Waagedahl) Sorter, was born on May 13, 1929, in Marshall Co., near Holt, MN. He was baptized and confirmed at the Immanuel Lutheran Church of Ringbo near his home and attended the first 11 years of school at Holt, graduating from Newfolden High School in 1947. He dairy farmed and raised small grains on his farm in Spruce Valley Township near Middle River for many years and was very involved in various dairy organizations. He served on the Spruce Valley Town Board for 20 years and on the Marshall County SWCD for 15 years. He served on the Immanuel Lutheran Church Council of Ringbo and most recently was a member of New Hope Lutheran Church in Newfolden.
On June 2, 1979, Myron was united in marriage to Gladys Lundquist at Grace Evangelical Church in Strathcona and the couple made their home on the farm in Spruce Valley. In Oct. of 2001, the couple moved to Newfolden and three years ago, moved to Greenleaf Senior Living Center in Thief River Falls. In Jan. of 2011 Myron moved to the Thief River Care Center where Myron passed away on Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 27, 2011, at the age of 82 years, 4 months and 14 days.
He is survived by his wife, Gladys; two step-daughters: Joan Brodin, of Billings, MT and Mary Lundquist, of Hartford City, IN.; two step-sons: Mark Lundquist, of Middle River and Robb (Lynn) Lundquist, of Munising, MI.; four grandchildren: Ben, Adam, Tony and Annie; several great-grandchildren; in addition to several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Myron was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: Selmer and Ernest, one sister: Anora Dunham and one niece: Marie Steinbrocker.
