Harold (Moose) Steinhauer passed away on Sunday, June 24, 2012 at Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, ND.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, June 30, 2012 at Nazareth Lutheran Church, Holt, MN with Reverend Sheila Michaels officiating. Burial will follow at the Holt Cemetery, Holt, MN.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, June 30, 2012 at Nazareth Lutheran Church, Holt, MN.
Harold Roger Steinhauer was born on January 12, 1943 to Walter and Alice (Rye) Steinhauer. He was baptized and confirmed at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Holt, MN. He attended elementary school in Holt and high school in Newfolden, MN.
After high school graduation, he served in the Minnesota National Guard from 1961 to 1965.
Harold moved to Missoula, Montana and later moved to Texas for employment. After spending a few years in Texas, he moved back to Thief River Falls where he drove a mail run for Deloris Holten from Thief River Falls to Warroad. While in Warroad, he worked at the Hartz store during the day.
He began assisting his father on the family farm where he has since resided.
Harold enjoyed spending time with friends and family. He had a special interest in the activities of his nieces and nephews and their children. Harold spent lots of time with Deloris Holten and her son Mike, daughter, Debbie and Debbie’s children, Angie and Conrad, as well as with his friend, Tammy Cassavant.
He liked goose hunting and gathering with neighbors to hear stories of the daily deer hunt. He enjoyed animals and was often the caretaker of other people’s dogs. Harold was a history buff – whether it was watching tv shows or reading about the past. Watching western movies was one of his favorite pastimes.
Harold is survived by his sisters, Jean (Doug) Grund, Gladys (Tom) Ahlin, Donna (Jon) Fosholm, Patty (Jim) Klemmetsen; brother, Bruce Steinhauer; brother-in-law, Bill Mehrkens; uncle, Ralph Rye; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Deloris Holten, Mike Holten, Debbie Holten, Conrad Holten, Angie Holten, and Tammy Cassavant.
Preceding him in death are his parents, Walter and Alice Steinhauer, and sisters, Irene Mehrkens and Cleo Swanson.
