Swanson, Bess H. (Syverson) (1917-2005)

Bess Swanson passed away on Sunday, Jan. 2, 2005 at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Warren, MN at the age of 87.

Bess Swanson was born on August 4, 1917 in Thief River Falls, MN to the late Nels and Mary (Mikulecky) Syverson. She grew up and attended school in Thief River Falls. On September 8, 1940, she was united in marriage to Erling “Erla” Swanson in Thief River Falls. They made their home in Warren. During WWII, she and her sister, Bernice, ran the filing station in Warren while Erling was in the US Army. In her later years, she worked at the Historical Building under the Green Thumb Program and also worked and volunteered at the Warren Senior Meal Center. In the fall of 2001, she went into the Good Samaritan Nursing Home after her Alzheimers made it too difficult for her to live alone.

Left to mourn her passing are three children; Robert (Sandra) Swanson of Gatzke, MN, Randy (Bette) Swanson of Warren, MN and Lorna (Scott) Fillipi of Warren, MN, three grandchildren; Robin, Jason and Ryan, two great-grandchildren; Candace and Chanceler, brother, Charles “Bud” Syverson of Warren, MN and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Erling, son, Dale, grandson, Julius, five sisters; Rose Ellingson, May Gran, Amy Hansen, Pearl Syverson and Bernice Syverson and brother, Tenny.
