Karen Thomas of Grygla, MN, passed away on Thursday September 17, 2015, at Valley Elder Care, Grand Forks, ND, at the age of 76.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, September 21, 2015, at Grace Lutheran Church, Grygla, MN, with Rev. Vicki Saude-Worthington officiating. Burial will follow at Saint Olaf Cemetery, Grygla, MN.
Visitation will take place from 9:00 AM until 10:30 AM at the church on Monday.
Karen Jean Windsnes was born on July 30, 1939 in Grygla, MN, the daughter of Peder and Lucille (Thomas) Windsnes. She was baptized and confirmed at the Valle Lutheran Church, rural Grygla. Karen attended high school in Goodridge, MN.
On May 22, 1955 Karen was married to Donald Thomas. They lived in the Grygla area for most of their lives where their son, Kenneth, was born.
Karen worked at various places throughout her life. She was a bartender and owner and operator of Fourtown Store and Tavern. Karen also worked for 10 years at Polaris and also at Machinewell.
Karen’s hobbies included quilting, reading, gardening, baking, and spending time with her family and friends.
Karen is survived by her son, Kenny (Barb) Thomas of Salome, AZ; granddaughters, Sheila (Dan) Shedlov of Hanover, MN, and Stephanie Thomas (Mike Ellingboe) of Cottage Grove, MN; great-grandchildren, Tierra, Treyson, Jack, Lucy, and Floyd; sisters, Nancy VanDinter of Hoquiam, WA, and Wanda (Dwayne) Undeberg of Halma, MN; brother, David (Carol) Windsnes of Vancouver, WA; brother-in-law, Leland (Thelma) Thomas of Grygla, MN; several cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Karen was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; her parents; sisters, Maxine in infancy and Helen Herman; brothers-in-law, Arden Thomas, Duke Herman, and Dewey VanDinter and sister-in-law, Margie Beck.
