Wilton Wash, 70, of Bagley, MN, died on Wednesday, August 25, 2010 at the Clearwater County Memorial Hospital in Bagley.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, August 29, 2010 at 11:00 AM at the Seventh- day Adventist Church in Bemidji, MN with Pastor Ken Mayberry officiating. Visitation will be 1 ½ hours prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at the Stephen Cemetery in Stephen, Minnesota. The Cease Family Funeral Home of Bagley assisted with the arrangements. Military honors by Bagley American Legion Post #16.
Retired Master Sergeant Wilton L. Wash was born in Bon Mills, Kentucky on October 17, 1939, the son of Roosevelt and Evadena Wash. He attended Highland Academy at Portland, Tennessee.
He entered the U.S. Army in November, 1957 and retired in January 1978. During 20 years in the Army as a Medical Logistics NCO, he served tours in Germany, France, Lebanon, Vietnam, Korea, Alaska and several states in the Continental United States, making 15 permanent changes of station.
Wilton married Gloria C. Dammann on May 29, 1965 in Stephen, MN. They met in Verdun, France where he served in the Army and she was employed as a Red Cross worker.
When Wilton retired, they settled on a farm southeast of Bagley, MN, and he graduated from agricultural school on his G.I. Bill. He raised cattle until he was diagnosed with Leukemia in 1983. When he recovered, he drove school bus for the Bagley School district until he retired on May 2001. He also enjoyed working with his horses.
Wilton was very active in the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Bemidji, holding various church offices including Elder and Head Deacon at the time of his death. He was actively involved at the SDA Clothing Depot, in Bemidji, as a volunteer. He was also a member of the Bemidji Retired Military Club and an active member of the Bagley American Legion Honor Guard. After his retirement, they enjoyed traveling to different states to see family and friends.
Left to mourn his passing is his wife- Gloria Daughter- Caralee (Jason) Anderson of Rush City, MN Daughter-Holly (Rick) Willard of LaVergne, TN Grandaughters- Caitlin and Kinsey Willard of LaVergne, TN Siblings- Barbara Willard of Deland, FL; Jean (Gerald) Hile of Ciscero, IN; Wanda Castle of Elizabethtown, KY; Ronald (Sally) Wash of Steinhatcher, FL and Janice (Donald) Lands of Ooltewah, TN Many nieces and nephews Brother-in-law- Robert (Dianne) Dammann.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roosevelt and Evadena Wash and father-in-law and mother-in-law, William and Carol Dammann.
